Historical Studies makes it easier for us to understand how we got to where we are today. With this in mind, we treat the past in our teaching and research from the perspective of present issues and problems, with a transnational view of Germany, Western Europe and the USA in the 19th and 20th centuries forming the focus of our interests. We are dedicated to the history of war and violence, the history of democracy, the history of political cultures and social movements, as well as the history of knowledge and gender systems. At the same time, we enquire into the historical mutability of bodies, feelings and experiences and deal with the changeability of social values and personal identities.
